About TV ATX
An independent look at Texas on screen — the film and television made in and about Austin and the state, the scene that makes it, and the theaters that show it.
What this site covers
TV ATX is about one thing: Texas on screen. We cover the films and television shot in and about Austin and the rest of the state, the independent filmmaking culture that grew up here, the festivals that give new work its first audience, and the theaters — from a 1915 movie palace to a dine-in house that became a national name — where the city still watches together. For the working side of the business there is a production desk here too: the stages, the trades and the incentives that get a picture made in Texas.
Why it exists
Texas has been a place the movies return to for a century, and Austin spent the last few decades turning that into a filmmaking scene of its own rather than a backdrop for everyone else’s. That story is scattered across festival programs, repertory calendars and trade news. This site gathers it in one place and tells it plainly, in our own words.
How we work
Every page is built to be useful first. No pop-ups, no paywall, no autoplay. We write our own editorial from our own read of the scene, and we do not republish another publisher’s lists, roundups or awards rosters. When we point to a source, we link it and move on.
Who publishes it
TV ATX is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin, Texas publisher that has been building websites since 1996, starting with one of the city’s first online communities. The network spans more than a hundred sites, each focused on a single subject, all running on one server.
The Austin network
If you’re exploring the city, our sister sites may help: Austin Hangout, Austin Retire, Austin Pads, and Austin Spring. See the full list at wholetech.com.
